Roger defeated in final

Roger was defeated 5-7, 6-7, 7-5 and 1-6 by Rafael Nadal in the final of the French Open today.

 

"It was an exceptional performance by Rafa. He's beaten me again. I'm sad but I am happy to play him," Roger said. "He is the best player on clay but I am proud of the way I have played over the last two weeks but I couldn't do enough against him. It was important to get into another grand slam final."

Roger started strong, breaking Nadal in the second game and taking a 5-2 lead. But it was just when Roger was serving for the set that Nadal found his rhythm and won the following five games to take the first set. The Spaniard continued to play almost without errors into the second set, but Roger managed to hold onto his service games and then break to level 4-4 - only to be broken again in return. Play was suspended for a few minutes due to rain - with Roger coming back onto the court to break Nadal and bring the set into a tie-break - which Roger unfortunately clearly lost.
 
Roger seemed to change his game in the third set and was at his best at 5-5 to go on and book the set onto his account. He continued well into the fourth set and had several break-points, but it was Nadal who made use of the chances he was given and left no doubt that he wanted the match to come to an end.

Roger will now open the grass court season this week at the tournament in Halle (GER).

Nostradome, if you play as well as Roger Federer, why are you or have you not ever been number one? How can any of us judge Roger if none of us, many of us tennis players at probably good amateur level, have ever been at his level beating all the records he has?

Roger, even when you did a lot of unforced errrors in the match, I think you played very well all the tournament, and you could win this.
Good luck in Wimbledon !!!

I watched the match and just can say it was great tennis by both players....maybe RF missed his chances in the 1st set and then paid the price for not being able to closing out that set. Then RN played with the score on his side it was more difficult for our champion to come back into the match.
I think Roger should work more on Nadal's backhand as well he does since Nadal drive is so dangerous and tough to break.

Happy with Roger tennis....I saw his outstanding serve has come back to rule!!

Firstly it was a great match between beauty and the beast. Only two technical points that I noticed. When Roger hit what would be winners to Rafa's left court they cam back cross court to Roger's forehand, high and deep. He makde many mistakes by trying to hit winners off them in frustration. He should have been at the net to cut them off. Secondly when he goes into the net on Rafa's right court the ball always comes back cross court. When is Roger going to learn this and cut these winners off.

Who are you? How many titles have you won?
You are wrong. With good muscles (and dr. Fuentes) you can run faster and you can get the ball in pruper way, have you seen the match between Federer and Nadal when Federer attacked Nadal in a amazing way? So...think before you comment, sorry ...because you have an age!

Per me potevi vincere. Subisci troppo Nadal. Eppure tu sei più forte. Hai battuto un Djokovic di ferro nettamente più in forma dello spagnolo. Non subire passivamente questo confronto. Lo puoi battere anche sulla terra. Forza Roger che di slam ne puoi vincere ancora molti. Io prima che iniziasse il Roland Garros non avrei mai creduto che facessi un torneo così. Devi avere più fiducia in te stesso. Tu sei il più forte di tutti e li puoi battere ancora per molti anni.

3 things ALL:
1)Age has Nothing to do with pro Tennis,I'm 56 and play as well as Roger.
2)Bigger Muscles have Nothing to do with pro Tennis,I an thin and 5'8" and handle 30 yr old players Every day.One guy is a Bodybuilder/trainer.
3)It's about understanding the Physics of the sport & Knowing How to Use them.
