Roger makes it nine!
Roger controlled every facet of play in the final of the US Open, celebrating a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory over Andy Roddick for his third major championship this year and ninth of his career.
Asked to rate his own play, Roger commented "It was absolutely fantastic. I have played great matches throughout the whole tournament." Tiger Woods was a guest in Roger's box, having promised to attend the match should Roger reach the final.
Roger is now the first man since Ivan Lendl in 1985-87 to win three consecutive U.S. Open titles - and the only man in tennis history (even before the open era) to win Wimbledon and the U.S. Open back-to-back three years in a row.
And he did it in such impressive fashion, out-acing the big-serving Roddick 17-7 and compiling a 69-33 edge in winners. Roger won a stunning eight of the last nine games.
