Next up: Tsonga in quarters

27.06.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger had to drop a set against Mikhail Youzhni today before eventually celebrated a strong 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Both players served well in the opening set, taking it into a tie-breaker. Roger jumped to a 4-1 lead - only to just enter a short sloppy phase and eventually drop the set by losing the tie-break 5-7.
He found his rhythm better and better, managing to break Youzhni twice in the second set. He then continued dictating the game and finally sealed the victory to reach his 29th consecutive grand slam quarter-final!

Roger will now play Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (ATP 19) of France on Wednesday.

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT ROGER, EVEN THOUGH WE ARE THE ABSOLUTE LOYAL FAN OF YOU, WE THINK THAT U SHOULD SERIOUSLY THINK ABOUT RETIREMENT TO SAVE WHAT IS LEFT WITH YOUR PAST GLORY....

Carelessness in what would have been the third and last set cost you dearly, you simply propped him up and gave him his chance. After that it was the usual head down. Indeed I was right when I said "2011 IS YOURS" except that the owner squandered his honor and glory for no convincing reason

I hope Roger retires soon. I am speaking as a true fan who has enjoyed his game for many years. At the same time I have been frustrated by lack of preparedness or unwillingness to learn from past mistakes. Exhibit A is repeated losses against Nadal.

Sometimes it appears that Roger expects to win just because he is Roger! This has been going for long enough to frustrate even ardent fans, except of course juveniles and know-nothings.

For all the talent that Roger has he could easily win ..

Dear Roger
I can't believe it's true! How did it happen? I saw only a few games of the last set! You played well on your serve, but did nothing to break him. Or you couldn't? I can't express how sad I am, but it's not important. Only what matters is that the best player is out in QF!!!!!!!! Still can't believe.
If you are injured, or so (I don't believe, but who knows) you have to rest and recuperate. You are the greatest gentleman Roger. Stay healthy. All the best to you.
Love, Mimi

If Nadal wins, we have say he is the best and he will be the best ever, that is a fact, sorry for Federer, and don't say that he has an injury, don't find any excuses, he played badly, awfully.

Guys, let me tell you one good thing. Its less painful to see Roger lose against any player other than Nadal. Let Novak take care of Nadal.

dont be mad at Roger, he gave his best! tennis is all about match ups and Tsonga was brilliant. Im a huge fed fan but he will never win another slam IMO, but all credit to him for an illustrous career. Again it opens up the debate of the GOAT. Rafa will sieze the oppotunity and scoop more slams and no one can stop him in winning a third wimbledon. sad sad sad
