Roger defeated in 5 sets

10.09.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger had to end his quest for another US Open title with a 7-6(9), 6-4, 3-6, 2-6, 5-7 defeat against Novak Djokovic in the semi-final today.

Roger had a tough day as it is only the second time in a total of 184 matches that he has been beaten after leading by two sets. The loss means he will finish a season without a grand slam title for the first time since 2002.

Everything looked perfect in the beginning as Roger booked the first two sets and was playing really well. It was in the two following two sets that Djokovic raised his level of play while Roger did not quite keep up. Roger got everything back together in the final set, taking it to 40-15 on his serve at 5-3. But an incredibly hard forehand from the Serb and one of Roger's balls just barely touching the net and sailing into the out kept him from clinching the victory. Djokovic went sailing through and secured the win after over four hours of play.

Dear Roger, so sorry you didn't manage the win this time. But you are not at the end of your fantastic career yet. There will be more matches, more victories. xx

I don't care what Djoko uses. He's like A Murray when that counterpuncher was @ his prime minus the GS. Counterpunchers don't last. Look @ AM now. I think Djoko will share a similar fate. If he defends 1/2 of his 2011 titles next yr then he may be more respectable. Rafa isn't at his best & may have past his prime already. Feds is tweaking his weapons with the rise of younger & more powerful players. Feds is able to tweak; Rafa seems to have trouble. That's what makes Feds different & the GOAT.

Reading the comments about the CVAC I thought the same thing. High altitude training. Rogi could come home to Switzerland and find tennis court to train on, up a mountain for the same effect. It seems a more honest way of doing it some how, but the effect will be the same! At least a mountain has pretty surroundings and fresh air, I think it would appeal to Roger and his family a lot more than sitting/sleeping in a CVAC

Meant "wonder", of course.
And for all those with negative comments: get a life!
Good luck to you, Roger. Hope you find the magic on the right moments again.

Boting is right, you haven't lost your amazing - at times immaculate - tennis, but you seem to lack the mental ability to produce an ace or unreturnable on matchpoint as you always used to. Wander what's in your mind at those points that wasn't a few years ago. :-)

YOU WEPT AT SW19, SIDNEY AND AT OTHER PLACES, WE WEPT SATURDAY NIGHT, DID NOT SWITCH ON TV, OPENED MY FACEBOOK, GMAIL ET ALL. HOW COULD YOU SNATCH DEFEAT FROM THE JAWS OF VICTORY AT 40-15, FINE ENOUGH HE RETURNED THAT WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACE, BUT YOU STILL HAD ONE MORE SHOT. YOU DON'T WANT TO WIN ANY MORE YOU WANT US TO SHED TEARS FOR YOU. I AM A SIXTYONE YEAR OLD GUY AND WANTED TO SUPERANNUATE WITH ONE VICTORY THAT WAS YOURS AND YOU DEPRIVED ME FROM THAT AND YOU SMILED ON YOUR WAY OUT.

Dear Rogi : The game was at 1:25a.m~5:15a.m in my country. I kept myself awake and watched it all through. Though a little frustrated, I was still amazed at your performance. Don't lose your confidence, please. All I ask for is that you can keep healthy and never end up your patience for tennis. Wish you good luck and never-ending happiness. I'll kept praying for you forever.

Last 4 years, Federer vs Nadal, this year, Nadal vs Djokovic, next year, Federer vs Djokovic. Or you could just take him out for dinner the day before the match and order some pasta for him ;)
