Defeat in doubles

17.09.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Despite a good start, Roger and Stan were defeated 6-2, 4-6, 2-6, 6-7(5) in Sydney by Australia's Hewitt / Guccione in doubles today.

Switzerland will need a Sunday win from Roger against 18-year-old Bernard Tomic (ATP 59) in order to keep hopes of Davis Cup promotion alive. Stanislas Wawrinka (ATP 19) will play against Lleyton Hewitt (ATP 199).

Really hope Stan can continue from where he left off today and close out the final rubber tomorrow so that all your joint hard work is not wasted. The court looks in truly awful condition and I can't believe that the venue didn't have any floodlights - think the Oz tennis people should either forfeit the rubber or be fined! You've been great Roger and all the best for your flight home and good luck TEAM SUISSE -ALLEZ! xxx

A big thank you to the team, especially to Roger and Stan. Both have had to show great determination to be there and play, and play through various niggles, injuries and from fatigue/jet lag. Stan is in a good position and should hopefully be able to wrap up the game in Switzerlands favour in a short period of time. That is a big game for Stan especially with injuries. A special thankyou to him for such a big effort , struggling through injury. He should be proud of himself!
