Defeat in doubles
17.09.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1
Despite a good start, Roger and Stan were defeated 6-2, 4-6, 2-6, 6-7(5) in Sydney by Australia's Hewitt / Guccione in doubles today.
Switzerland will need a Sunday win from Roger against 18-year-old Bernard Tomic (ATP 59) in order to keep hopes of Davis Cup promotion alive. Stanislas Wawrinka (ATP 19) will play against Lleyton Hewitt (ATP 199).

of who plays quite often not the top guys.
Roger we are so proud of you not only what you have achieved on the court but off it.
I will be honest and state that the majority of the 4000 spectators who have attended the matches daily ALL marvel at the way you made this huge effort to come 'down under' to play for your country--"talk of the town" so to speak!"
You have done yourself, team, family and fans proud.
I hope that you are feeling well enough to play today.

he does not like grass. Certainly it is not his best surface THAT is why the Aust team chose grass [host team has the choice of surface] for this tie.Pat Rafter their captain, openly omitted this ie to target Stan on grass.
To the Swiss***CJM 09/17/2011 & Monica [Kuetschuek]09/17/2011***
I agree with both of your posts--the scheduling of Davis Cup has been an issue for many years. Then some ask why the top players do not play---many such as Spain have many players, therefore a choice
Bad luck BUT as you said in your interview post 1st rnd ,one of the reasons that you came to Australia for DC was that Lleyton is a great competitor especially in DC- Also that you enjoy/enjoyed playing against him. THAT is why the Aussies won yesterday--Lleyton was relentless as ALWAYS in DC more so when he plays in his own country--he has a superb record in DC.
I agree with ** Corallina 09/18/2011** the Swiss DO need more players.
Re Stan and grass--I do not know whether
I wish you the best in davis cup,a
Aussie did play only for Davis, nothing else. You arrived from a semifinal at US Open! Guccione is nothing but he play like Isner (pardon Isner). One man show is not Davis Cup. Question for Luthi....Go win my GOAT : we are proud of you. Number one 4ever!
