Roger Federer wins Paris Masters for 1st time (San Francisco Chronicle)

Roger Federer's tough season is ending on a high note. Federer beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-1, 7-6 (3) on Sunday for the 69th title of his career and first at the Paris Masters. "I'm just ecstatic to have played so well this week," said Federer, who hadn't previously reached the Paris final. "I have had many attempts to win Paris, and for some reason, I wasn't able to. It's a special victory. I have had some really tough losses this year, but I kept believing the year wasn't over," Federer said. "I'm not playing to prove anything to anybody. I play for myself, I play for Switzerland (and) just to enjoy myself."

Roger Federer takes momentum to London (The Australian)

Roger Federer has the momentum and renewed confidence as he sets his sights on a record-breaking sixth World Tour Finals title. He may be set to end the year without a grand slam title for the first time since 2002 but Federer will take a 12-match winning streak into his title defence at the eight-man season finale in London from November 20. World No.4 Federer brushed aside home favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-1 7-6 (7-3) in the Paris Masters final overnight to remain unbeaten since his gut-wrenching semi-final loss to Novak Djokovic at the US Open where he squandered a match point. The 16-times grand slam champion was excited by his resurgence after claiming the 69th title of his career.

Paris Masters Triumph Is a First and a Boost (New York Times)

A two-set lead was not enough for Roger Federer to shake free of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at Wimbledon this year. But a two-set lead is all that is required for victory at this late stage of the tennis season, and so Federer finally got to hold up a trophy on the other side of Paris. It took him until 2009 to win the French Open at Roland Garros Stadium; it took him until Sunday afternoon to win the Paris indoor event, and though there were no tears and not much drama in this sometimes lopsided final, it was still a big moment for Federer in a year that has been long on fine play but disquietingly short on big titles.

Roger Federer beats Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to win his first Paris Masters (The Guardian)

Roger Federer beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-1, 7-6 on Sunday to win the Paris Masters for the first time and clinch the 69th title of his career. The winner of 16 majors had never reached the final of this event but gave the sixth-seeded Frenchman little chance after saving two break points in his opening service game. "I've been waiting for this for a long time," Federer said. "I'm really happy to have finally made it." Federer's 18th Masters title puts him one ahead of Andre Agassi and one behind the all-time leader, Rafael Nadal. The 30-year-old from Switzerland is on a 12-match unbeaten run after winning the Swiss Indoors in Basel last week.

Swiss third seed Federer, who moved to one shy of Rafa Nadal's record of 19 Masters titles with a stunning display of sheer brilliance, became only the second player with titles in Roland Garros and Bercy -- the two men's Paris tournaments. "I'm very happy with my performance today," Federer, who captured his 69th career title from 99 finals, said at the courtside. "I'm amazed by how well I play. I don't think Jo played a bad match. It's good to complete the tournament so solidly."
