Roger cruises through

24.11.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger also won his third match in London, defeating Mardy Fish 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 today - continuing his impressive run at the ATP World Tour Finals.

"I've played Mardy a few times and he's always very dangerous," said Roger after the match. "He takes the ball extremely early, serves great and can get on roll. I was worried in the third set. I thought I was going to lose today but I'm very happy. It's been a great run since the US Open - I've been all round the world but I'm still going strong. Hopefully I can make it a nice weekend."

Roger started the match with the same kind of efficiency that helped him beat Rafael Nadal in just 60 minutes on Tuesday - our champ had three breaks in the first set. In the second set, Fish found his rhythm and played strong at the net, finally holding his nerve to seal the set. But Roger immediately took control of the deciding set by breaking Fish for a 2-0 lead and closed out the match in an hour and 47 minutes.

Roger will now play the runner-up from Group A in Saturday's semi-final.

Congrats for your win against Mardy. All the way to the finals! However, do not take anything for granted against Ferrer. Though you have an excellent record against him, give the match your best shot, knowing that no. 3 ranking is at stake.
Wishing you best of luck our Champion! Stay healthy.

An excellent press conference indeed. Roger's comment on a possible player's strike or boycot: Nonsense! On the season being too long: Players should schedule their own year better. On changing to a two year ranking system (like in golf): unfair to lower ranked players, because it would become very difficult to go up in the ranking and also: it would make tennis boring ;-). Dear Roger, You can make it to 4-0 in the ATP finals. Viewing the interview of Ferrer on tennistv.com, he showed that he was so lost after losing the game to Berdych. He was thinking about Davis Cup and the ATP finals.
Keep focus in your game plan. 2 sets only with Ferrer and have a long rest for the next day- championship. Go Roger, Go Roger. Bring the Trophy home with a smile.

You have an excellent record against Ferrer, and you know how to beat him.
I know that he's been playing well but you were playing unbelievable. Just play your game and you'll get through.
I have a good feeling that you'll be able to win this tournament. If you do so, you don't know how much you'r going to make your fans delighted.
All the best.
