Roger masters Tomic
Roger showed a terrific match today, taming Australia's Bernard Tomic 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 44 minutes. He will now play his 31st consecutive grand slam quarter-final against Juan Martin Del Potro.
"I played a really good match. I thought I had to. Anything else wouldn't have got the job done," Roger said. "The score would suggest otherwise. If you hadn't seen the match you would think straight sets, no problem, but I had to work extremely hard and Bernard showed why he is going to be a great player in the future."
Roger stepped up his game when he needed to, showing some dazzling winners which even left Tomic visibly impressed. He eventually scored a total of 45 winners, mostly dominating the rallies from the baseline.
Roger will now face Juan Martin Del Potro, against who he won two sets to love in Melbourne three years ago. The last time the two met was in Cincinnati last year where Roger defeated Del Potro 6-3, 7-5.
