Roger masters Tomic

22.01.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger showed a terrific match today, taming Australia's Bernard Tomic 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 44 minutes. He will now play his 31st consecutive grand slam quarter-final against Juan Martin Del Potro.

"I played a really good match. I thought I had to. Anything else wouldn't have got the job done," Roger said. "The score would suggest otherwise. If you hadn't seen the match you would think straight sets, no problem, but I had to work extremely hard and Bernard showed why he is going to be a great player in the future."

Roger stepped up his game when he needed to, showing some dazzling winners which even left Tomic visibly impressed. He eventually scored a total of 45 winners, mostly dominating the rallies from the baseline.

Roger will now face Juan Martin Del Potro, against who he won two sets to love in Melbourne three years ago. The last time the two met was in Cincinnati last year where Roger defeated Del Potro 6-3, 7-5.

Dear Rogerrrrrrrrrrrrrr,

Please focus on your shots & shot-making. Del Potro has a great weapon - he serves as good as you! So, all that is left is your shot-making to throw him off-guard & out of reach! His long hands are like a net!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!

he rog well done....i think this match was very helpful in a way to get some type of rythm from baseline....drop shots were good, serve was great especially 2nd serves although 1st serve % can be better, returns were good (benefited from karlovic match) and i think you can do little bit of work on your volleys...im not sure if del potro has played any match on rod laver arena and as well as on night this year... thats why start is important and then dont take ur foot off the padel...be strong

SUPER GREAT MATCH ROGER, well played indeed, you dominated the match. Please continu your form into the next match against Del Potro. Also a though one, but hey remember your match in 2009 quaters where you destroyed him 6-3, 6-0, 6-0. I am sure you can do it again. Pressure him form the start till the end of the macht. Play big on the big points and I am sure you will come through. Best of Luck Roger !!!

1-:D Roger that was wonderful! So much power and intelligence, I was in heaven, beautiful! And that amazing backhand smash and all those genius shots. You are the greatest! :o I'm so impressed!

This guy Tomic is so lucky he got the master class I would die for, I mean just to play with you to me would be true glory, to experience in the flesh your power full- on and to witness up close your shots, your service! My heart would burst of happiness; well some people are so fortunate. :(
