Rough start for Switzerland

Roger lost his first match of the Davis Cup rubber against America's John Isner 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(4), 2-6 today. The USA took a 2-0 lead in their World Group first-round tie as Stanislas Warinka also lost his match against Mardy Fish earlier in the afternoon.

Roger had a great start and only lost four points on his own serve. But Isner started to turn things around in the second set, when he increased the pressure enormously. Roger had little answer to his opponent's excellent serve, and the crowd of 7'000 people in Fribourg was stunned into silence at Roger's first loss in Davis Cup singles in eight years.

Roger and Stan are due to face Mike Bryan and Ryan Harrison in Saturday's doubles. The match starts at 2.30 pm.

Roger: I did not have the chance to watch your game yesterday, i am still sorry for your defeat. However, great champions acquire their greatness by their comebacks amd ypu and stan can comeback, forget day 1, use day 2 and 3 to propell you to win the cup. Always cheering for you.

Shame about yesterday. Stan played so well against Mardi, he was very unlucky not to win. he needs congratulating for his efforts! You did not seem to move well yesterday Roger, I hope you do not have fitness problems?! I think the rather bouncy, fast court suited someone of Isners size better than Roger. We would have done better on a good hard court. Forget yesterday and play your hearts out today, remember, you are the Olympic Champs.!! Good luck to you both and,take care, keep fit!

I feel good about whatever outcome. Among the top 4 you are the only one showing up in Davis Cup. Can people not see how special that is. Never mind I do not read or listen to others. I only feel that you are doing the best by listening to your body. It is the right decision not to push the river. Just let it flow. As long as you are healthy, good things will happen. I am sure of that. Love you always.
