Rough start for Switzerland

10.02.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger lost his first match of the Davis Cup rubber against America's John Isner 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(4), 2-6 today. The USA took a 2-0 lead in their World Group first-round tie as Stanislas Warinka also lost his match against Mardy Fish earlier in the afternoon.

Roger had a great start and only lost four points on his own serve. But Isner started to turn things around in the second set, when he increased the pressure enormously. Roger had little answer to his opponent's excellent serve, and the crowd of 7'000 people in Fribourg was stunned into silence at Roger's first loss in Davis Cup singles in eight years.

Roger and Stan are due to face Mike Bryan and Ryan Harrison in Saturday's doubles. The match starts at 2.30 pm.

All the best for today's dubs rubber, if you and Stan play today hope you're both fully recovered from yesterday's exertions, not going to be easy, Mike Bryan being another powerful giant even without his twin. Lots of love and luck and will be watching (from behind the sofa). Hope this isn't going to affect your participation at Rotterdam next week in an adverse way as looking forward to that. Love you, GO ROG!!!

away your legacy OR your wonderful tennis
Critics should all go and have a VERY cold shower and wake up to what you have achieved so far in your life on and off the court.
I wish you both all of the very best for doubles and thank you for participating in the DC.

Kindest regards

next 2 days will bring.
Switzerland is a small country with 2 players in the top 30- you do not have many players to choose from -- several other countries have many.
Roger SO much pressure on you in particular to perform well--similar to own Lleyton Hewitt in latter years.
Your game has not disappeared in spite of the 1000 plus matches you have played at the highest level--just incredible--keep you wonderful game and let the others run, run, and wear their bodies out.No one can take

Hello Roger and Stan
Not your day but not to worry.I have watched many DC matches over the years where one NEVER knows what will occur in any given match.
Admittedly I have only watched some of yesterdy matches, the court did not appear to be a good clay court [similar to the rather odd grass court here in Sydney last year.]You both played your best on the day,Stan recovering from an injury, yourself flying to Switzerland from the AO. Of cousre I am disappointed for you but who knows what the

Well said Isabell! But just slightly disagree abt his hair. It’s TOO short, too straight! Where’re the curls gone??
I just want to wish Roger gets some luck for next match. He really needs some luck these days!! But pls take easy Roger! Don’t try to kill yourself to win it.
I hope the loss doesn’t affect his confidence for RG!! (Somehow I’m just worried a bit abt Roger’s fitness. To me he seems having a trouble to keep up his energy level through matches!I really hope I’m wrong)

I wish the swiss team would win the remaining matches and come out strong.I am surprised to see that switzerland has chosen to play on clay where hard courts are their players strength
