Rough start for Switzerland

10.02.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger lost his first match of the Davis Cup rubber against America's John Isner 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(4), 2-6 today. The USA took a 2-0 lead in their World Group first-round tie as Stanislas Warinka also lost his match against Mardy Fish earlier in the afternoon.

Roger had a great start and only lost four points on his own serve. But Isner started to turn things around in the second set, when he increased the pressure enormously. Roger had little answer to his opponent's excellent serve, and the crowd of 7'000 people in Fribourg was stunned into silence at Roger's first loss in Davis Cup singles in eight years.

Roger and Stan are due to face Mike Bryan and Ryan Harrison in Saturday's doubles. The match starts at 2.30 pm.

this year is very important and all the tennis players will be prepared for all...(Davis Cup, Olympics, Grand Slams, Master 1000, etc), the battle is hard and the strongest is the winner, pay attention with your team (family, coach, etc) All the best tomorrow and this year.

This just shows how Roger's tennis is declining or he is not in shape after a few week layoff. Very disappointing! With loses like this retirement must not be far away for Roger.

Fish was fiesty and Isner was irritating.

As you once said,Roger, sometimes the opponents just play a bit better on the day and they did today,so "too Good" for them and on to doubles.Wish you and Stan have some real fun tomorrow.:)) Good luck! Hopp! Hopp!

Incredible matches! Ispired Isner.

I've never liked fresh made clay courts, I was surprised the team chose such a surface. But you had your reasons and they might get justified tomorrow AND the day after tomorrow!

Rest quicly and good luck!
