Swiss team out of Davis Cup

11.02.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger and Stan were defeated by America's Mike Bryan and Mardy Fish 6-4, 3-6, 3-6, 3-6 in today's doubles, giving the US Davis Cup team an unbeatable 3-0 lead over Switzerland.

Roger and Stan started well and they kept the Americans under control for a set and a half. After that, Bryan and Fish became unstoppable as athey gained early breaks in the following sets. After 2:18 hours, the hostile crowd of 7'000 people had to face the third loss of its Swiss team this weekend.

"They were simply better," Roger admitted after the match. "The balls bounced rather high due to the altitude and that caused us quite some problems."

Switzerland will now have to go into the play-offs in September to remain in the World Group.

So sorry about that champ! I went all the way from London to see you playing doubles on Saturday. Bad result, but the atmosphere was incredible and I could appreciate how much you are loved in your country. Cheer up, there will always be better times ahead. Love you always.

Damn it, Roger, I hate when you lose although it could be in DC, I just hate to see you lose. Now masters in Indian Wells and Miami and you have a great chance to get closer to that ugly Nadal. Love you, always.

It was great that you played and I was disappointed for you and Stan and the Swiss fans. I also agree with Chieko89: absolutely spot on. Has anyone noticed that Soderling has not played since July with mono? Remember Roger in 2008? Continued to play throughout which just goes to show tough he is. Detractors write him off at your peril. Good luck in Rotterdam champ, love xxxxxxxx

The United States completed its 5-0 rout of Switzerland in the first round of the Davis Cup on Sunday, with 19-year-old Ryan Harrison and John Isner winning the closing singles matches. Harrison made his Davis Cup debut, defeating Michael Lammer 7-6 (0), 7-6 (4) to extend the Americans’ lead to 4-0. Isner, who stunned Roger Federer in four sets Friday, then beat Marco Chuidinelli 6-3, 6-4 to give the U.S. its first sweep since a 2004 first-round series against Austria.

A pity, but these things happen in tennis all the time. Not the best day, or some problems in one area or another. I must say though that I was amused that Mardy Fish was CAREFULLY called a young thirty" whereas in your case it's not the same. Despite Fish's coming up, he won't have greater capabilities. But I look forward to the year" pacing, timing, are important. Viva Roger!

Dear Roger,
Sorry for this disappointing result for the Swiss team. Was certainly hoping for a different outcome for you. Guess it was not to be this time. Anyway, it was nice that you were able to spend some good times with the guys this past week.

On to Rotterdam and hopefully back to winning ways. Looking forward to your success there!

Take care and be well.

Yours always ~ TGrace
