Swiss team out of Davis Cup

11.02.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger and Stan were defeated by America's Mike Bryan and Mardy Fish 6-4, 3-6, 3-6, 3-6 in today's doubles, giving the US Davis Cup team an unbeatable 3-0 lead over Switzerland.

Roger and Stan started well and they kept the Americans under control for a set and a half. After that, Bryan and Fish became unstoppable as athey gained early breaks in the following sets. After 2:18 hours, the hostile crowd of 7'000 people had to face the third loss of its Swiss team this weekend.

"They were simply better," Roger admitted after the match. "The balls bounced rather high due to the altitude and that caused us quite some problems."

Switzerland will now have to go into the play-offs in September to remain in the World Group.

I also think you should keep on playing doubles with Stan and on top of Indian wells(were you played in the finals last year) play Miami as well, maybe madrid but there is no need to train on clay. Best of luck against mahut and please win rotterdam, you can do it, and every one will be cheering for you, your highness. This was just a strange weekend, put it behind you, use it as fuel and stick to the davis cup team. Always praying, cheering and trusting in your greatness.

Start of the spring season, this is the time everyone starts talking and saying you are over. Please use this dissapointment with the Swiss team as fuel and shut everyones mouth, it seems like it has been forever since you lost 3 in a row(counting doubles). Now is the time, they are all talking because they are afraid and tired, come on big shark, smell the blood and restore world order. Specially in the masters and Roland Garros and Wimbledon were two more majors are waiting for you.

Dear Roger,

I just heard that you will play next Wednesday in Rotterdam. I bought all tickets for Monday and Tuesday in the hope to finally see you, because I have been a huge fan of you since years. Unfortunately I won't see you now. I am really, really sad. I cried a lot today. Well, I wish you good luck and well, hope to see you soon in the future.

Love,

Anouk xx (Netherlands)

Whoever laid the court must be an American spy. Treason I say!! At the very least, fire the guy. Should have gone with an indoor hard court. At least the Swiss would have won 2 rubbers.

Anyway, what is done is done. I still love you Roger. Good luck in Rotterdam!

cont.
of course it will always be difficult for small countries like la Suisse with only 2 players in the top 100 to compete with a much larger country with so many players to chose from.
For me having tickets for Rotterdam, hoping you will do well there and make it to the final next Sunday this outcome is not that bad. More energy left in the tank for your matches over here. I wish you a good recuperation and lots of luck at the ABN AMRO WTT next week. I will be there cheering you on.

Hello Roger,
Too bad you had to meet a title candidate and multiple winner of DC in the 1st round, but that is Davis Cup. You have done your share of winning over the years and have been good for 2 and often 3 points for the team. I remember in the early days where you single handed won the Davis Cup for Switzerland. All good things must come to an end and so is your winning streak in DC singles. You and Stan fought hard, but in the end you were left empty handed.

Will always be rooting for you, Roger :)
All the best in Rotterdam!

Of course I wanted Switzerland to win but I've wondered how on earth Roger and Stan could carry all the rubbers alone - so many matches to play and no-one to fall back on if Switzerland want to win. Of course Switzerland had to try and were very unlucky indeed to face USA in first round. But as you go to Rotterdam, Roger, I'm so relieved that you didn't have to play another tough DC match today and you won't have to worry about DC matches again until next year. GO ROGER in Rotterdam!!!
