Roger battles into final

02.03.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger fought a thrilling battle against Juan Martin Del Potro today to finally defeat the Argentinian 7-6(5), 7-6(6) and book a spot in the Dubai final.

“I hung in there and I thought I played a good match,” said Roger. “He almost pulled the first set tie-breaker back from 2-6, and there was little between us tonight. I just fought well and got a little lucky."

Roger is the only player not to drop his serve this week, and he also remains indomitable on serve because he did not face a single break point. Both sets went into tie-breaks and in the second set Del Potro had a 5-0 lead. But Roger fought back and had a stunning comeback which helped him turn the score around and also win the second set.

Our champ will now play Andy Murray in tomorrow's final. The Scotsman beat Novak Djokovic earlier today.

Excellent Roger well done great battle!!!

You're moving great really fast. I like it at lot when you play against Juan Martin.

Is it true that you will play doubles at Indian Wells? And one note I watch all your matches, I have for a long, long time and it is every time the best and most exciting thing. And you always have my total support and love.

My best wishes for the final! Fight for it!!! You can do it! Have fun and take care.

I love you so much…

hi Roger - a really good victory for you and I fully agree what "Heartofthematter" from Canada says. to hang in there as you did takes great determination and focus so, great to see. I think you may well need it all against Andy Murray as his confidence is high. Am sure you can do it though, so with you all the way!

best wishes

It was amazing, this match, that you held your serve, and then won the tiebreaks. Especially in the second one, where though you were significantly down, you stayed in and came back to win! That last rally just about before the last point--how you kept in there, with that not-giving-in--is another proof of your presence of mind, you strength of heart, skill and passion. Bravo, and Godspeed against a yet again different opponent. Tailor your game, as you have! Luck, and a surge of support to you!
