Roger battles into final

02.03.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger fought a thrilling battle against Juan Martin Del Potro today to finally defeat the Argentinian 7-6(5), 7-6(6) and book a spot in the Dubai final.

“I hung in there and I thought I played a good match,” said Roger. “He almost pulled the first set tie-breaker back from 2-6, and there was little between us tonight. I just fought well and got a little lucky."

Roger is the only player not to drop his serve this week, and he also remains indomitable on serve because he did not face a single break point. Both sets went into tie-breaks and in the second set Del Potro had a 5-0 lead. But Roger fought back and had a stunning comeback which helped him turn the score around and also win the second set.

Our champ will now play Andy Murray in tomorrow's final. The Scotsman beat Novak Djokovic earlier today.

Dear Rogerrrrrrrrrrrrrr,

Congratulations for keeping your cool & you hung in there to finish it off with the second set tie-breaker was amazing. I just have one thing to tell you. If you have the number one spot in your mind, to regain the position, you will have to improve on your physical & mental strength. Most players today are much more determined & aggressive than you can think of. Good luck with the same fighting spirit & keep the fighting spirit when the going gets tough !!!

Roger, how DO you do this??? That second set tie-breaker was astounding! I can't imagine what must have been going through your mind while keeping your cool. It reminds me of the second set tiebreaker from Wimbledon '09 final against Roddick. You were down four set points. As McEnroe said when you won that set, "How did THAT happen?" Amazing serving. Keep cool and win tomorrow!

Good luck, and feel alert and well tomorrow, Roger! Murray is not quie the same player: he still has is style, but was taught other things by his new coach. I am sure you and team have your thinking caps on too. Dismiss any irratation anyone causes, and stand your ground like the lionheart you are. I beliee, I know that you can win this final match: stay focused inside on your game and who you are, and don't allow distractions. Go with your great serves, too! Godbless! With you with all my hear!
