5th title in Dubai

03.03.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger showed a great display today to defeat Andy Murray 7-5, 6-4 in the final to secure his fifth title in Dubai and his 72nd career title.

"It's beautiful winning this" Roger said. "I've had a great start to the season, and a great finish to last season, so I hope I can keep it up. But there are a lot of guys who are going to play tremendous as well."

It has been a tight opening set and both players were in excellent condition. A break in game no. eleven was just enough to take the opening set after 52 minutes. In the second set, Roger scored an early break to take a 3-1 lead but Murray responded with a re-break shortly after. After another break on Murray's serve at 4-4 Roger was then able to serve out the match, which he did with his second matchball - winning the Dubai trophy for the fifth time.

Next up is the BNP Paribas Showdown in New York on Monday where Roger will play Andy Roddick.

4-You have everything and more to defeat them, believe in yourself! Focus on your game and keep fighting for what you want. I think you have the physical capacity like 30 going on 23 but 100 times better!

I was SO delighted that you beat Murray yesterday. I also wish that some more of the courts were quicker because they suit your game so well and to see all your strokes flowing was a sight to behold!! Good luck for the rest of the season; I will be at Indian Wells and Wimbledon to watch you.

Roger, Congratulations on your 72nd title. I wish you a fleet of such trophies! Put you together with a fast court and it reminds us all of what we are missing - lightening quick tennis strokes, fabulous movement and you floating across the court with such elegance and speed. It was a feast for the eyes! Good luck in the U.S. tournaments!

Hey Champ, nice to see you back in winning form at the season start after quite a while. So pleased to watch you very focused to win titles. I can sense some damage to be done by you in the upcoming tournaments. If you win couple of Masters 1000s before the Roland Garros, then you'll be No 2 and then winning a GS can put you to No 1. But that's a long shot. First and foremost grab Indian Wells title. Stay healthy! Go Roger!
