Roger wins in three

23.10.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger had to fight back from a set down today to reach the quarter-finals of the Swiss Indoors - he defeated Denis Istomin 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in Basel.

Roger dropped his serve in the sixth game of the opener to then lose the set. But our champ fought back in style to eventually clinch the match in front of a delighted home crowd.

Roger will now play either Vasek Pospisil or Grigor Dimitrov for a spot in the semis.

Although I was astounded and happy about Coric winning, I'm sorry yet again we are not having a Roger/Rafa final.

Last time they met was when Roger was recovering from his bal, had his old racquet and Stefan was not in his team. Roger came out firing on all cylinders today, I never felt there was any doubt to the result, but thought it may go to 3 sets, silly me! Dimi had a nasty fall, Rog showed concern but Dimi seemed to be ok, he had a scrape on his elbow fixed when he could. I am very happy, Nadal out, Roger still in, just Dr.Ivo to worry about for the time being. I hope that is a clean cut win for Rog.

I really felt that it would be bad news going to a tie break. I thought Coric'snerve would crumble and Nadal's experience would work in his favour. Not at all though. Coric went straight into a lead and stayed there. What a remarkable young man. He is certainly a dangerous young man. Roger will have to watch him and it could be on Sunday they meet. We will see. As for Roger and Dimi. It was a very exciting match. Dimi has improved a lot since last year, but so has our Roger!

CJ Hi, I noticed a blonde lady at the front wearing Swiss earrings. Was that you? And the last two matches were wonderful. I'm sure Coric will be in the top 20 very soon. Such bravado!

Well, what an evening that was. I saw the end of the Dr.Ivo match, then Nadal, then Roger. I had seen a bit of Coric this week and was impressed. Gulubev played well yesterday but Coric totally outplayed him. I was expecting him to at least give trouble to Nadal if not defeat him in Nadal's present condition. I was surprised though to see an instant break and then 5:0 up! I think it was just nerves and shock at what he was doing which prevented him from taking a bagel. That and Nadal fought back.

K3 yes it's obvious to assume that BUT let's not get that far of ourselves. Let's not forget that Roger's been playing a lot of tennis lately and a lot of tennis (hopefully) ahead of him in the next 3 weeks so he also will be tired the question is when will it "hit him". Right now things are looking great and let's hope there's more to come !

I think our Maestro is 2 years younger than Dr. Ivo !!
Finally our Maestro gets to be the young one always.
