Roger defeated by Roddick

06.03.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger lost the BNP Paribas Showdown at the Madison Square Garden in New York against Andy Roddick 5-7, 6-7(7).

"We’ve had some great battles over the years in all the great stadiums and this is one of them, so I’m glad we did it,” Roger said after the match. “I wish I could have pushed it to a third set."

Next up are the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

This exo was great fun Roger, and you were such a gentleman throughout...at one point I was wondering just how many hometown calls they were going to allow! Anyway, it was a blast, really good sportsmanship, and a nice little warm-up before IW. Enjoy the sunshine in California and good luck!

No worries Roger. I am sure the crowd loved you. You had no time to unwind and get over the jet lag. Good Luck & God Bless.

I haven't seen the whole match yet - I watched a bit of the first 4 games but then had to give up and sleep. But it was clear this was going to be hilarious from start to finish with two such great comedians on court I saw a bit of Andy's Rafa impersonation, very funny). It doesn't matter to me which of them won, I love them both, they were there to entertain the audience not fight for a GS! Well done both of you for giving people such a wonderful evening, so I hear!!!!! Love you both.

I think Roger was toying with Roddick and could have won it if he had wanted to. Being the supreme sportsman that he is, Roger was gracious enough to let Roddick have his moment in the Garden. The event was about promoting tennis, and not a real contest with anything at stake. Roger kept it close enough to make the match entertaining for the fans, and that was good enough for him! Hasn't Roger beaten Roddick 22 times previously?

Roger is saving his energy for Indian Wells and Miami!
