73rd career title!

18.03.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger captured a record fourth title in Indian Wells today, beating John Isner 7-6(7) 6-3.

There was not much between the players in the start and it proved a tough battle with no breaks, taking the opening set it into a tie break. Roger spurned two opportunities to take the set in the breaker before finally doing so at the third attempt with a clinical serve and volley.
In the seventh game of the second set, Roger converted the first of two break points to take a deserved lead. And Roger continued in style to break Isner in his next service game to seal the victory and once again make history.

Roger has now won 39 of his last 41 matches, has equalled Rafael Nadal's record of 19 Masters 1000-titles and only lies four victories behing John McEnroe (third in the ranking) with a total of 73 career titles.

Congratulations Champ! Nice reply to Nadal in outdoor conditions. This proves that if his topspin is not consistent, you can easily get him. That straight-set defeat will be another dent to his confidence. Now you got into his head (little-bit) though that head is full of Djoko for the past one year. It's interesting to see the process of you slowly getting into his head and him leaving your head. If you beat him in any of the future Clay-court tournaments (which I'm sure you'll), then Bingo!

Hello Roger,

Rather late, but better late than never: heartiest congratulations on your 4th title in Indian Wells and another record! I have watched that match several times now and I never get enough of watching you win a title :-). It was so good to see you with that happy expression on your face, showing how much it meant to you to win this tournament. You really seem the man to beat right now. With a fan on the forum I would like to say: welcome back, Roger, and please, stay!

I like it when your fans express their lovely feelings about you and your tennis. however, I don't like it when some of them talk bad about your competitors. Its not nice. I know its not your fault. This is just a message to your fans. please confine your comments to our beloved RF. thanks.
