73rd career title!

18.03.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger captured a record fourth title in Indian Wells today, beating John Isner 7-6(7) 6-3.

There was not much between the players in the start and it proved a tough battle with no breaks, taking the opening set it into a tie break. Roger spurned two opportunities to take the set in the breaker before finally doing so at the third attempt with a clinical serve and volley.
In the seventh game of the second set, Roger converted the first of two break points to take a deserved lead. And Roger continued in style to break Isner in his next service game to seal the victory and once again make history.

Roger has now won 39 of his last 41 matches, has equalled Rafael Nadal's record of 19 Masters 1000-titles and only lies four victories behing John McEnroe (third in the ranking) with a total of 73 career titles.

Roger: The match was incredible, really emotional. And the way you played it was amazing. Congratulations for this new title, and the way you are playing. Thanks for all that and especially thank you for coming to South American this year. I will save as much as can to seeing you playing here. Kisses for you and your family. By the way, your daughter is beautiful

What awesome results! It was so satisfying to watch your semi victory over Rafa. Your footwork as you hugged the baseline & took time away from his topspin shots was an unbelievable display of tennis timing. That is one match to keep in the library & watch frequently! Best wishes for continued good health in 2012 & keep the momentum going!

I have always believed that you are a contender in anything you take part in!!!
And always will continue to! So this is fantastically STUPENDOUS but not surprising at all :))
And for sure, delighted as always that you beat Rafa on the way too!!!! Always beat him, no matter where you play him, so you can have his number just like Novak does ;)
Like I said before, keep winning everything! You can be Number 1 FOR MANY YEARS!
Just show 'em who's boss.
But now, win in Miami and become no. 2 fi
