Out against Roddick

27.03.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger lost in the third round of Miami today against Andy Roddick 6-7(4), 6-1, 4-6.

Both player started well, holding serve in the first set with Roddick finally taking it in the tie-breaker. In the second set, Roger broke Roddick three times and showed great tennis. In the final set, Roger did not manage to take advantage of the four break chances he had, whereas Roddick seized his only opportunity of the match to seal the victory after two hours of play.

"I had my chances," Roger said after the match. "I could have been up a break early in the third, but he did well to fight off those break points. He served really well. I didn’t just get the lucky break today that I got in Indian Wells. I regret missing my opportunities and giving myself maybe a chance for tomorrow. Then you never know how things all of a sudden turn out in the tournament. It is what it is and I’ll deal with it the way I always have.”

Next up are the Mutua Madrid Open - the tournament starts on 7 May.

Dear Roger
As you said, it was really a tough loss! Especially when I watch AR yesterday!! Not the same player at all! On the contrary! He showed nothing and playing you he was so determened to win, to put you out, it was visible! A shame for the whole tournament, for you not to mention! And above all, you played well!!! That hurts! I would like, as a lot of your fans to watch you in MC, but if you think that the rest is what you need, OK.
Wish you all the best and good luck dear
Love,Mimi

In respect of the comments made by user MIGUELRAJLIN, I was surprised when I did not see the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters on your schedule for this year. It would be lovely for all your fans to see you in this tournament and for you to get a start on the clay season given the extra rest time you have as a result of your early and sad exit from Miami. It would still allow you time to rest and practice for Madrid. Love ya!

Tough loss, but it was clearly Roddick's day. The only positive from this loss is that you have more time to reflect on your hard court successes, and to focus on the coming clay court season. Wish you success and an improvement in your performance this clay court season over 2011 results.

Dear Roger, losing does not mean you have become worse but on the contrary, you have played great tennis during last six months so you deserve a rest. You are still Roger Federer we all love and respect, your style of playing has not changed at all but it is getting better as time passes. So please Roger, maintain your self confidence, I know it was hard even harder for your fans, but just please keep believing in yourself and in your tennis. You´ll return stronger as you are the best ever Rogi

It's really tough loss! With Andy's extraordinary performance at your broken service game, there is no ashame at all! In fact, given your performance, you deserve to be at least in semi-final. Just a sigh, especially when we know that Andy is lost today...
