Out against Roddick

27.03.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger lost in the third round of Miami today against Andy Roddick 6-7(4), 6-1, 4-6.

Both player started well, holding serve in the first set with Roddick finally taking it in the tie-breaker. In the second set, Roger broke Roddick three times and showed great tennis. In the final set, Roger did not manage to take advantage of the four break chances he had, whereas Roddick seized his only opportunity of the match to seal the victory after two hours of play.

"I had my chances," Roger said after the match. "I could have been up a break early in the third, but he did well to fight off those break points. He served really well. I didn’t just get the lucky break today that I got in Indian Wells. I regret missing my opportunities and giving myself maybe a chance for tomorrow. Then you never know how things all of a sudden turn out in the tournament. It is what it is and I’ll deal with it the way I always have.”

Next up are the Mutua Madrid Open - the tournament starts on 7 May.

Well, Murray has had it easy: handed the final of Miami on a plate. That's tennis. Rafa knee injury, no surprise. If they continue with their policy of slowing down the courts (grass/clay/hard, the difference is getting less and less), heavier balls etc. leading to monotonous baseline play, more players will suffer injuries. And I'm not just saying this because I'm a Fedfan. He knows what he's doing and he needs a rest so let's leave him be; wish him Happy Easter and good rest, love Fed always x

I appreciate you, and your game, and your balanced work for tennis and all players. kt

since Roger not there. Even I do not like Murray and Novak, I hope Murray win. He won't threaten Roger even he has 1000 points. Novak needs to be upset a bit on his arrogance. Guys, please don't push Roger , other than tennis, Roger has a lot of commercial commitments. For Roddick, to win a match is their job. They earn more money when they advance, no wonder they will put their guts out to win

Dear Rog, just adhere to your original plan of participation of tournaments this year; if you could regain World No.1 this year, it would be a bonus. Otherwise, as your genuine fans, I would rather see you stay healthy, happy and really enjoy your every match...just ignore the points....I love to see you lifting up trophies (and of course wearing the Olympic Gold Medal), be it GS, ATP 1000, 500 or 250.

Roger: I´m sad since the match against Roddick, but more now, thinking about all the good posibilities you would have to gain points. I wish it isn´t so hard for you as it is for me....

Hard to see you lose.
:-(

Harder not to see you on court for weeks!
:-( :-(

Painful to realise what you missed, now that Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from his semi-final against Andy Murray with an ankle injury!!! (not a surprise imo)
:-(( :-((:-((

Roger will go to Monte Carlo, there's no choice
-To be #2 as soon as possible (then less pressure for the spring and summer tournaments )
-To have the minimum of four 500 tournaments ( Monte Carlo is one of them) to count is best six (250, 500, olympics and davis cup)
-If he don't play MC, a gold medal in the olympics game would not count... in fact, it would count 750 (gold) - 500 = 250

Well, very disappointed not to see a showdown with Djokovic! I've been waiting patiently since the US open. Now that Rafa looks questionable for Monte Carlo and Djokovic has decided to participate maybe you could reconsider? Not far from home and who else will stop the Serbian juggernaut!
