Roger battles through
09.05.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1
Roger came from a set down to beat Milos Raonic 4-6 7-5 7-6 (7-4) in the second round of the Madrid Masters today.
Roger had a rough day today, especially due to the young Canadian's serve - he fired 21 aces in a match that lasted just over two hours. Raonic reached a 100%-quote on points won upon first serve that landed in the field. Roger only saw his first break point towards the end of the second set. Fortunately, he improved on his own serve gradually throughout the match and was eventually able to wrap everything up in the tie-breaker.
Roger will now meet Richard Gasquet (ATP 18) in the third round in Spain's capital. Our champ won nine out of the eleven matches the two have played - losing 2 out of 3 on clay, though.

BIA – BRASIL :)
after watching you play as a young teenager in your home town. I remain very much in love with your game today, perhaps more so [if it is possible] following your match early this am [down under] I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Wishing you all of the very best for your next match
Kindest regards
Margaret a chronic fan forever
Your serve and volleys and drop shots are efficient on this blue clay.
Kind regards from Montreal!
As a tennis player myself, I thoroughly enjoyed watching your match--what I call real tennis.Heartiest congratulations to you and commiserations to Milos Raonic ,who hopefully, will become NO1 in a few years from now.
Roger, I could not feel prouder ,you simply played brilliantly--mentally and focus ++++ AND tactical adjustments that you made during the match ,superb.
Net approach 34 times--back to your younger days when you S/V more.
I fell in love with your tennis
Also as a Canadian, I am proud of our Milos Raonic who played extremely well against 'best of the world'. I will see him in a very bright future.
When it was the 11th game in the 2nd set while you struggled to hold your sever, I couldn’t watch anymore, instead I repeated “good luck Roger and J…x Raonic (sorry I cannot help)” all the way to the office (it’s in the early morning here).
OMG Champ, you never stop amusing us. I really want to know how you broke his serve in the second set and won the tie breaker at the end (thanks Milk).
I guess your next opponent is less dangerous. GOOD LUCK CHAMP in Mad
It was a lovely match and I enjoyed watching it from the beginning.
Well done, Champ!
Next Gasquet ...
Good luck!
