Just after Roger's title in Madrid, next stop on the ATP World Tour is the Italian capital for the 77th edition of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia. There 23 out of the 25 best players in the world have confirmed their participation there.

Roger, the no. 3 seed, is in the same half of the draw as the defending champion Novak Djokovic.

After a first round bye, our champ will start either against Argentina's Carlos Berlocq (ATP 38) or a qualifier. In the fourth round he could then face France's Gael Monfils (ATP 14). In the quarter-finals, Janko Tipsarevic or John Isner, seeded as no. 8 and no. 9, are possible opponents.

Roger, whatever you decide to do in Rome, the ranking doesn't matter so much but your fitness certainly does. Hope the niggles resultant from Madrid don't affect the rest of this summer for you, that would be a huge pity. I would like to say that Madrid came up with the most interesting and exciting matches I've seen for about the past 10 years culminating of course with the final! What a splendid victory !!!When the other top guns gave up you stood tall and proud and without uttering any displeasure about anything throughout the tournament you conquered the blue clay and moved up a notch in the rankings !!! so well deserved...
