Stopped by Djokovic

19.05.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger's quest for back-to-back claycourt titles was ended by a 2-6, 6-7(4) defeat in the semi-final in Rome against Novak Djokovic.

Roger was broken twice in the opening set in their first encounter since the US Open last year. Roger was constantly under pressure and could not keep up with Djokovic's pace in the rallies. After falling a break back in the second set as well, Roger started to play more aggressively, varying his game and broke back after saving a match point. But in the following tie-break, Djokovic made the crucial points to win the match and book a spot in the final against Rafael Nadal.

Dearest Roger,
I am sure you will beat Djoko next time ! Maybe in Paris. But your work has been splendid, just keep it up. Even Rome is crying not having you in the final.

No it wasn't too hard to take! The last thing we want is another loss to Nadal on clay..
Hopefully Djokovic will humble him on Sunday and you will have an extra day to rest and recover and get ready for RG where you will hopehfully meet one of the two not both. You've been on a tear lately, and that should serve you well in Paris, so best wishes and best of luck for both RG and Wimbledon where you should get to #1 again

ROGER FOREVER

No problem, Roger! As even the comms said, you don't need this title, you've already won nearly everything. This has been a wonderful week that you gave us in spite of hesitating early on if you'd play. I forecast that you'll win this title in a future year when you've won more Majors and the Olympic gold singles and have the time to concentrate on smaller titles just for fun.

Meantime, good luck in Paris where we are backing you for your next Major! Definitely this time! Love you!
