Stopped by Djokovic

19.05.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger's quest for back-to-back claycourt titles was ended by a 2-6, 6-7(4) defeat in the semi-final in Rome against Novak Djokovic.

Roger was broken twice in the opening set in their first encounter since the US Open last year. Roger was constantly under pressure and could not keep up with Djokovic's pace in the rallies. After falling a break back in the second set as well, Roger started to play more aggressively, varying his game and broke back after saving a match point. But in the following tie-break, Djokovic made the crucial points to win the match and book a spot in the final against Rafael Nadal.

It is laughable that anyone has the audacity..(.or is the correct word stupidity)....to give Roger Federer, the best ever to play the sport, advice on what he should do about his game... what shots to play..... when to retire....SERIOUSLY ? None of us are worthy of even licking the bottom of his shoes ! Enjoy his glory and be thankful for what he gives to the game and his fans....or, by all means, go get on the "whoever is #1 train" if it helps your ego. True fans are there till the end.

Hello every one!

I think Roger had a good result, winning Madrid and arriving to Semifinals (Madrid was tough and no rest at all)

I think you have a very good opportunity in the following months to reclaim Number 1 again. (it does not matter Roger is back to # 3) He is techically tied with Nadal at # 2)

Keep same way and be strong for the 2nd week of RG.

Best For All

Awesome play as always Roger. RG is going to be tough but I know you're well conditioned and up for the challenge. Let's have a repeat of your semi with ND last year. To those questioning the ranking points let me explain. ATP deducted last season's points for the tournament BEFORE the tournament. ND had 12,200. They took away 1000 for his win last year and then added 600 for the final this year. Similarly, RF lost his 90 from last year BEFORE the tournament then added 360 for his SF.

Rogerpete25, Roger beat all who stood in his way in Madrid, Nadal & Djokovic didn't, and the surface was the same for all players end of story !!!!!

You seemed very tired at this match - definitely missing your spark and fire that is necessary to beat Djokovic. At times it came back but not consistently. It's too bad but I still enjoyed watching you play - as always you are my favorite player to watch. Wishing you a short but good rest and all the best for RG. Go Roger!
