Roger sits out Davis Cup

07.11.2006 | Tennis

Roger has opted not to represent Switzerland in the opening round of the Davis Cup (February 09 to 11, 2007). He wants to focus on retaining his position as number one in the world rankings, and is thus concentrating on other events.

"Winning the Davis Cup is too big and too important a goal just to try it when it is not the top priority," Roger said. The Swiss federation obviously understands Roger’s decision, but nevertheless regrets it.

Futhermore, it is now official that the encounter will take place in Geneva in the Palexpo hall, just like the last three rounds.

I totally understand your decision and I am surprised to see people critize you for it. I think that your fight in Shanghai to retain number 1 is something that not only benefits you, but your country too. It is obvious that you are one of the best ambass

That’s very disappointing !!
For yet another year, Roger puts more importance in his preparation for the Dubai Open and its huge prize money rather than to such a prestigious event as the Davis Cup!
Roger is currently more than 3000 points ahead of Nada

Skipping round 1 of Davis Cup is a big mistake. The Swiss team has no chance without you and would probably win with your 2 singles wins. You might as well skip all of Davis Cup since the Swiss won't be in the running after round 1. You will still be n

Dear Roger,
I'm unhappy a little bit for that. But the only important thing is what you think. You're number one, THE ONE, so...:)))) Alright.
I'm going to watch you in Shanghai! Good luck for the Masters Cup, kiss:)))))))))))
