Roger sits out Davis Cup

Roger has opted not to represent Switzerland in the opening round of the Davis Cup (February 09 to 11, 2007). He wants to focus on retaining his position as number one in the world rankings, and is thus concentrating on other events.

 

"Winning the Davis Cup is too big and too important a goal just to try it when it is not the top priority," Roger said. The Swiss federation obviously understands Roger’s decision, but nevertheless regrets it.

 

Futhermore, it is now official that the encounter will take place in Geneva in the Palexpo hall, just like the last three rounds.

The Swiss Team will obviously miss you very much. However it is hard with the beginning of the season to do so many events. You will do Switzerland proud by retaining your no. 1 ranking and going for the Grand Slam next year.

Wise decision, Roger. You know best what you can and cannot do to jeopardize your number one status.
I think the Tennis Association should adjust the Davis Cup to a better planning in time that could fit into the schedule of the top 50-players. They and

i quite understand your decision re not playing in Davis cup.This must have been a very difficult decision. To achieve your goal you need to be clear re your priority and then abide by that. I wish you luck in Sanghai
