Roger rushes into round 2

28.05.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger started his 50th straight major by defeating Germany's Tomas Kamke (ATP 78) 6-2, 7-5, 6-3 at the French Open today - equalling Jimmy Connors' record of 233 Grand Slam match victories!

"I get a great deal of pleasure playing here. When I play well, the numbers come with me. It's great to have played and won here so often. I hope it continues," Roger said.

Roger scored three out of four break points in the opening set and continued well, securing the important points. He was always in charge, but nevertheless accumuluated over 40 unforced errors and missed several rather certain opportunities. He never got into danger, though, and wrapped up the match after 117 minutes on a sixth match point.

Roger will next face Adrian Ungur (ATP 92) of Romania who eliminated David Nalbandian in four sets.

Another great match, Roger, very enjoyable to watch and when you didn't have to work too hard! What a splendid game Ungur showed when he had got into the match. Some great b/h's, and oh those drop shots and some lobs too.... Come on you guys below, stop telling the Maestro how to play tennis - or get out there and see if you can beat him!!! Roger doesn't have to play top form in every match, it's his choice.

Well done my hero! Although you dropped a set but lot better performance than the 1st round! I think losing the 3rd set was in some way blessings in disguise. It allowed you to believe you have the capability to always comeback and take full control no matter what. Before I used to get panicked whenever you lost a set. But now I can see you can make it useful and get stronger. Keep going Champ!
