Roger breaks Connors' record

30.05.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger beat Romania's Adrian Ungur 6-3, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3, today to book his spot in the third round at Roland Garros and also pass Jimmy Connors' record of 233 wins at majors!

"I expect myself to win and I usually manage to do it. It's not like that at the start of your career when you think you are good enough but you are not that good yet," Roger said after the match.

Roger was clearly in command in the first two sets, making a speedy way to victory today. But as the third set went into the tie-break Ungur first saved two match points to then come alive and take the match into a fourth set. But Roger soon managed his first break and left the Romanian no more room to catch up, wrapping everything up nicely after 2 hours 27 minutes.

Roger will face either Slovakia's Martin Klizan (ATP 70) or Nicolas Mahut (ATP 89) of France for a place in the last 16.

Super congrats Roger, great game, third set was harsh but you need to start getting challenged early on to trust your resiliance and find ways to win. Hope you also break Conorrs other record, it is hard but title number 75 in Paris would be a nice landmark, keep on being agressive and enhancing and enlarging your shot repertoire, is always a lustfull feeling to see you play, great game once again.

Congrats on breaking yet another record Rog ! It doesn't matter how you play but what is important is that you win right now especially in the 1st week of a grand slam. I've seen many tournaments where the player playing the best throughout the tournament didn't win. It is how you play in the final , no matter how you get there, that counts. I have complete faith that you will go into superior maestro mode when it counts. Right now cruise mode is fine once you win lol Keep fighting Rog !!!

1-Well done my love, my beautiful talented Roger. Amazing shots! Love when you stretch and when you serve. Keep going!

You are so young and you already beat Connors record and you also improved it! Impressive! Congrats!

It looks like it's hot on court I really can't stand the heat I find so impressive the way you handle it, incredible endurance. You're so strong, and your outfit is really well tailored, your beautiful broad shoulders look incredible. ;)
