Roger battles through

Roger fought a few ups and downs against Nicolas Mahut today, eventually booking a spot in the round of the last 16 with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win.

Roger made an excellent start, breezing through the opening set. In the second, Mahut converted his first break point in the 10th game to take the set. Roger reacted right away, taking the next set easily after a first break in the third game. Seemingly on course, Roger then took a slight detour in the final set after saving a break point in the sixth game to then secure a break himself straight after - only for Mahut to break back. But Roger wrapped everything up with one more break and a final solid service game.

In round four at Roland Garros, Roger will meet David Goffin (ATP 109) for the first time. The Belgian entered the draw as a "Lucky Loser".

even as fans we don't tend to appreciate roger's greatness and consistency enough. we say we do, but then we start trying to tell him how to win. 2 matches he lost a set and we get worried. we want a better win. we want a 3 set win. fix your serve, no ue's, concentrate, watch the footwork, etc. at 30 yrs old he has a horde of youngsters wanting his #3 ranking thinking he has been there long enough. 8 yrs of qf's and we're still hungry. so i'll say THANKS ROGER and give no advice.

Bravo, Roger! From me, only my heartfelt congratulations for such a well-dserved victory. Mahut was really fired up, maybe because of the marathon Isner match at Wimbledon, and he relly tried. Nice man, but the aura around you said that you had your mind set to take the match. Watch out fot the young men, since he is not such a known factor ad these kind can be erratic, unexpected in thei way. You do know how to "suss" things out: you know how to achieve your goals. It was a delight seeing you!

roger is playing like 2009 when he won. 4 sets twice and 5 sets twice. but in 2009 djokovic and nadal weren't hanging around at the end waiting for him. i hope he gets through and wins it all. so much love to roger and much luck wished. GOOOOOOOOOOO ROGER!!!
