Roger battles through

Roger fought a few ups and downs against Nicolas Mahut today, eventually booking a spot in the round of the last 16 with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win.

Roger made an excellent start, breezing through the opening set. In the second, Mahut converted his first break point in the 10th game to take the set. Roger reacted right away, taking the next set easily after a first break in the third game. Seemingly on course, Roger then took a slight detour in the final set after saving a break point in the sixth game to then secure a break himself straight after - only for Mahut to break back. But Roger wrapped everything up with one more break and a final solid service game. 

In round four at Roland Garros, Roger will meet David Goffin (ATP 109) for the first time. The Belgian entered the draw as a "Lucky Loser".

Congrats. on your win Champ. It was a very good match, beautiful entertaining tennis. At times it felt like ping pong on clay. So refreshing, better then endless baseline exchanges. Mahut was enjoying the spotlight and PC and playing his heart out but I had no doubt you were going to win. Hope you have an good 4th round and get Goffin in easy straights, fan or no fan please don't have mercy on him.. Rest well Greatest and thank you for the beautiful tennis.

I forgot love the black socks. Was so hopeing Raonic would be up against Nadal and not Monaco. Players need to revolt about these long five setters - chances of injuries too great. Yea great to watch, but I am not on the court dying.

Glad you got through. Good luck against Goffin who seems quite enamored with you. Another youngster to educate. I must admit so tired of all the hoopla about Nole and Rafa - want to see that trophy in your hands. Well, much success in round of 16. Hopefully my poor stomach will survive. FedBear and I will be cheering from the cheap seats. Paula

Great that you won Roger, was nervous in that 4th set!
Nadal and Djokovic look unbeatable this French open and you have looked vulnerable. Hoping you can up your game otherwise there's no way you will beat them let alone get to the semis!
