Roger battles through

01.06.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger fought a few ups and downs against Nicolas Mahut today, eventually booking a spot in the round of the last 16 with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win.

Roger made an excellent start, breezing through the opening set. In the second, Mahut converted his first break point in the 10th game to take the set. Roger reacted right away, taking the next set easily after a first break in the third game. Seemingly on course, Roger then took a slight detour in the final set after saving a break point in the sixth game to then secure a break himself straight after - only for Mahut to break back. But Roger wrapped everything up with one more break and a final solid service game.

In round four at Roland Garros, Roger will meet David Goffin (ATP 109) for the first time. The Belgian entered the draw as a "Lucky Loser".

You had an easy draw so far Roger but you haven't performed at your best yet.
Hopefully you will up your game in the next week as the matches are expected to be tough.
Good luck... :)

Dear Roger
Congratulations! I'm not going to judge your play, though I always expect from you to play peRFect!!I think it's not about your play, but your focus!! You lost the second set just because of lost some important focus, concentration at the end of that set!
Anywaay, I hope you are healthy and fit enough for your next opponnt. The young one is a surprise! Don't let him surprise you!
Wish you all the best and good luck dearest Roger!
Go, Roger, gooooooooo!
Love, Mimi

Well done Rog' ! flat ball, drop shoot all were very impressed. But I think you should not use many drop shoots in semi and final (Especially to RN and ND) rather swing it with power ...it can put more pressure on your opponents and more winning chance to you. Getting closer to Semi and Final, plz be clear and be confident yourself then victories are ahead of you!!!

Best of Luck!

To be very honest, I was not impressed at all with your play yesterday. Too many unforced errors. Although you hit many classic shots in between but that is what we expect from the GOAT. I have seen most of your GS matches and this effort looked very casual. The only plus was your backhand passing shots. Simply amazing. Pls take care of your netplay and dont hit those dropshots when u r near d net . Remember it cost us the match in the last years FO when a dropshot landed 2 mm wide, we lost s&m

Good match Roger. It was a tough one but you showed sparks of brilliance that won you your 2 masters of this season. Its good if you have to earn your victory in these matches bcoz it will make you battle hardened. Best of luck against Goffin.
