Quarters in Paris

03.06.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger came from a set down to beat "Lucky Loser" David Goffin (ATP 109) 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 in the round of the last 16 at the French Open today.

"David has played an extraordinary tournament," Roger said in an interview after the match. "I congratulate him from the bottom of my heart."

Roger had a rough start into the match as the youngster played fresh and confident to take the first set. Roger only managed his first break towards the end of the second set, levelling in sets and giving our champ some room. Roger then found his rhythm and was not in any further trouble from there on.
Roger will now either meet Juan Martin del Potro (ATP 9) or Tomas Berdych (ATP 7) in the quarter-finals.

Great stuff Roger and a great match. These youngsters just go for it sometimes and make you work hard. so well done to stay calm and get back into things in a superb match. also it was great to see you give him a big hug at the end of the match which was sportsmanship at its best!

Go all the way now and am sure you can do it. Del Potro is still a trickey opponent so take care!

best wishes to you and your family

Dear Roger: Great match, goffin was confident and shooting all his cannons, but you managed to stay calm and win the match, i think now there are 32 quarter finals or more in a row. This time the more should be the championship, if you stay clam and play confident no-one, not even Rafa or Nole should be able to defeat you. Best of lucks against Delpo and be carefull with the drops, show him how you can counter his long drops with short drops early on, do that and a good part of the match is in

Dear Roger,
Congratulations! It was such a beautiful match. The boy was really honoured to play his master and role model if RG. He imitated you in so many ways, even picking his manners and class from you. You're the shining star in FO. Go Roger! Good luck with your nest match.Del Potro loses confidence and control every time he play with you. No worries! Love you Roger.Take care.God Bless.

Roger, I was there, 2nd time in my life. Watching you play is just a gift. Tricky, having opponents you don't know, and with this terrible weather. I enjoyed the match a lot, and am proud of you. So beautiful interview at the end of the match. Onwards, Roger, God bless you.

Dear Roger, what an extraordinary match, yet another new player for you to assess and then beat. It's been a week of interesting surprises. Love your interview after about the match. But now, someone you know well. GOOD LUCK!! MUCH LOVE

So it's Del Potro next. I sense that in general you know how to play this man and win. He is supposed to be struggling with his knee but presumably it can't be that bad or he would 't have got this far, so show no pity. Already commented on previous match. That lad has some talent and I agree, with hard work he could well be a GS contender in the future. It was an entertaining match. All the best against Del Potro and with a win, against Djoko (poss. he was v. shaky in his match). Love, xxxxx

In my knowledge, you reserve your energy pretty well and you manage your game wisely.

You are so ready for the final and I am so proud of you.
