Out against Djokovic

08.06.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger suffered a 4-6, 5-7, 3-6 loss against Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the French Open today.

"I was actually feeling particularly well in the second set, and that one hurts the most to lose," Roger said. "In the third, I don't know, I just wasn't able to put a good game together anymore. You're down two sets to nothing against Novak and it's not the same match anymore. He goes for broke and has no fear and that's about it."

Roger had a good start by breaking Djokovic early in the first set but receiving the re-break in return. Djokovic secured the first set with yet another break. In the second, Roger broke Djokovic again for a 3-0 lead but the world no. 1 took 13 of the next 18 games, constantly putting Roger under pressure. In the third set, Djokovic piled up four breaks to eventually seal his victory after 2:05 hours.

Roger, you did well in the match except you lost. I think it is because of two reasons 1 Your backhand is not handling the easy wide out serve. 2 You push Nole off the court as planned but you did not follow up. Next action should not have been trying to pass him again and again without success. Instead revert to the way you played while you were winning 3 grand slams per year by playing slices and drop shots and the backhand shot you played that land near the service line and kept low.

For me personally No.1 or No.2 does not mean so much! We will always love you unconditionally whether you are No.1 or No.20, as long as you are enjoying the game. Although regaining No.1 spot would be amazing! My dream scenario is (no one has to agree with me!) Roger defeating Rafa in Wimbledon crushing Novak on the way and demolishing Novak in US open final. I really don't mind if he then decides to retire on that high!

All the -ve comments here against our great Roger, they're not from his real fans. They're from other's passing time here. Djoko is gonna grab that title and lift our Champ to No 2. I'm sure even our Champ likes that. Roger definitely puts this away as he knows that he's not the favorite here above those two guys. But he'll focus on the Grass season ahead and then the Hard Courts and then the Indoor. But Nadal's main focus is these 4 months here. He puts all he's got this period.

I'm just hoping and praying that Nadal wins! This is what our Champ predicted and wants! Rafa has got so much high regards for Roger although he defeated our Champ many times. And Roger also respects him a lot. I have read so much about Novak disregarding Roger. I have a feeling that Roger doesn't mind Rafa surpassing him on clay, but no one else.

RAMCHARAN, I heard Roger a bit dispirited after the match and this broke my heart.. Hope you are right that he put it this way.. I don't want to see him lose his confidence :-( And all these comments here from others that he should quit really tear my heart apart.

Dear Rogerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

To hell with your errors! You never impress anymore, it just gets scary every time you reach on top ( quarter finals to finals). Always the same tension, so unsure !

Don't worry. Roger didn't mean that everywhere but on that day under those conditions. If the balls are heavy, court is very slow, he can't hit the ball through the guy who is the best defender. Moreover, when he is 2 sets to 0 on those conditions, he can't grind out the next 3 sets. At this age he needs little help from the court conditions. So his words may not hold good for Grass and Hard courts. I'm pretty sure he's gonna comeback at Wimbledon and +ve that he can win it.

Roger can lose because he is not feeling well, because his hip is aching, because the weather conditions are against him, because he is in a bad day, because he is not in a mood to play, because of any reason whatsoever but not because he is down to 2 sets to Novak. Had he not said this, I wouldn’t have made so many comments here. I would only say: “That’s fine Roger, this was not your day, good luck for the Wimby..” Love you Roger
