Roger cruises through

25.06.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger won his opening match against Albert Ramos (ESP, 43) 6-1, 6-1,  6-1 in Wimbledon today, mking a perfect start to his quest for a record-tying seventh title.

"It's rare to be up in the scoreline like today on a regular basis. It is maybe why it is a good time to try it out, then you can use it in tougher moments, difficult moments, to throw your opponents off. Who knows if I'll need it down the stretch?, " Roger said.

He needed just 79 minutes to breeze through today. Roger dictated the match in all possible ways. He is now the most successful active player on grass with his 106th win on the surface. He said the ease of his win had given him a chance to practise his serve-and-volley game.

Next up is Fabio Fognini (ATP 68), against whom Roger has only played once, dropping just two games.

What a match, Rog! Congratulations. An almost perfect game. Good luck against Fognini. By the way, with ATP disapproving blue clay for next year, you will be the ONLY WINNER in blue clay!

Great Roger! But the BBC coverage is complete and utter rubbish. Roger was only shown on the 'red button' so it couldn't be recorded, now I've got in at 8.30 they are all drivelling on about the Brit players (well, I'm glad Ollie Golding did well, but the women ... honestly!) and there has been no single mention of Roger AT ALL. Will they JPLEASE retire Sue Barker and as for Tim Henman as a commentator. So cross!!! But not with you Roger. Seems you played great.

Great start, Roger!
It was beautiful watching you dance on the green courts of Wimbledon.
Nobody does does it better.
Good luck against Fognini!
We love you and believe in you! :) <3

Good result Roger, that should boost your confidence (if needed!) nice way to start your quest. Lovely to see you serve and volley again, keep it up!! Just hope the courts don't become clay-like too soon this year. All the best for your match against Fabio who seems to be improving at an alarming rate. Good luck and keep THE FEDERER EXPRESS FLYING ALONG. Love as ever to you and yours. xxxx

Hello Roger,

Waht a wonderful start of the tournament for you: a good old fashioned very convincing victory over a younger opponent. I am not the only one who just loves to see you win these kind of matches this way. Good serving, serve & volley and going for your points. You clearly didn't want to waste time nor points. That dinner at Tim Henman's on Sunday evening must have done you good :-)

I wish you all the very best for your next match against Fognini.
