In round three with ease

27.06.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger cruised into round three at Wimbledon with a very clear 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Italy's Fabio Fognini today.

Roger had the honour of playing in front of Prince Charles and Camilla today, saying it was a great feeling to do so. And he was sure to impress the Royal box, firing 13 aces and wrapping up the win in just an hour and a quarter. Roger also kept up his incredible streak of never having lost in round two at a Grand Slam in his career.

Aiming at matching the record of seven Wimbledon men’s titles set by William Renshaw in the 1880s and tied by Pete Sampras in 2000, Roger will next meet either 29th-seeded Frenchman Julien Benneteau or American Michael Russell.

as ur fan i couldnt be more happy today.......but to be fair u allowed him to get into a rhythm in the 1st set by committing UEs and then he got more confident for the 2nd........but u still showed tht wht ppl say abt u not being as determined as some of the other players is definitely wrong......well done roger and i defintiely think were gng to see st sets atleast in the next 2 rounds after this test

Whew! My heart rate started to go down in the fifth set; my hands were actually shaking at the end of the fourth: what a fighter and what a champion.Benne played his socks off. Just as well he's going to have a nice long rest, I suspect he'll need it!You are so marvellous. Good that you have got the weekend off, love you gorgeous man, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Roger, tonight you proved how great you are..
Amazing match, Benneteau really proved he can play well but you proved that even though you were very numb in the first 2 sets you could still come back and play exceptional tennis.. You are a great fighter and to be honest I was not expecting anything less from you..
GO CHAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing Roger! Tonight Roger sent out a message to everyone. He still has what it takes, focus, stamina, mental and physical fighting spirit and just sheer determination and belief. What a stubborn GOAT he is. I really do believe now, Thank you Roger, most of us has suffered heart attacks tonight, you really are the greatest, certainly the most determined. Have a very good rest, you deserve it. xxx
