Roger survives massive |scare

29.06.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger defeated France's Julien Benneteau in a thrilling match 4-6, 6-7(3), 6-2, 7-6(6) and 6-1 today and thus making his way into the second week at Wimbledon.

After dropping the opening set, Roger was not able to make use of three set points in set number two, eventually losing the tie-break clearly. But he then started to find his way into the match a lot better, taking the third set with ease. The fourth set, again, went into a tiebreaker, where our champ won the first point. Both players traded points from there until they reached 6-6 for Benneteau to then hit a return long - and Roger finally closing out the set.

Benneteau seemed too exhausted in the final set, receiving treatment on his legs twice. Roger, on the other hand, showed some more terrific tennis to continue his journey for a seventh Wimbledon title.

Xavier's forehand letting him down, Roger now breaks to win the 2nd set. Looks like Sharapova is on her way out. Poor thing!

Roger shouldn't allow Xavier to break him, get to 5-1 please

I am relaxed now that Roger will play on. Makes me feel a lot better and he's moving not quite right but better than he did the first set. He will get better hopefully as the match progresses.

He is older and more injury prone now. I'm sure the weather doesn't help his arthritis. Even if he pulls this out his competition will only get tougher.

ROGERPETE32 must be smoking something really, I agree with you BOTING. Roger is no Djokovic that used to retire in many of his matches before hw actually started winning matches. He should go on Djoko's website and out of here. Roger will ein this match for sure and then get better
