Roger survives massive |scare

29.06.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger defeated France's Julien Benneteau in a thrilling match 4-6, 6-7(3), 6-2, 7-6(6) and 6-1 today and thus making his way into the second week at Wimbledon.

After dropping the opening set, Roger was not able to make use of three set points in set number two, eventually losing the tie-break clearly. But he then started to find his way into the match a lot better, taking the third set with ease. The fourth set, again, went into a tiebreaker, where our champ won the first point. Both players traded points from there until they reached 6-6 for Benneteau to then hit a return long - and Roger finally closing out the set.

Benneteau seemed too exhausted in the final set, receiving treatment on his legs twice. Roger, on the other hand, showed some more terrific tennis to continue his journey for a seventh Wimbledon title.

He shouldn't be having problems with these players. If he is hurt - pullout. Maybe he can salvage the Olympics. Horrible grass season for him so far. Long live the new king - Djoker!

I tried BBC also and could not believe that they had only womens matches on. I never thought I would say this, but I am so pleased to see some rain at Wimby! Perhaps Rogi can get some good treatment on his back/hip and time to allow the painkillers to take effect.I have never seen him call for help before, which makes me think it is quite bad. He will make Malisse do the work, one set up, Roger is brilliant, but so upsetting to watch. Rog will not have to serve against the wind with roof shut.

I'm watching this on red button - unbelievable that they're showing two women's matches on BBC1 & 2 - I'm lucky not to be working today, but for those who are and put the tape on, they will have missed first set at least...and the drama. BBC ARE CRAP!
