Roger through in four sets

02.07.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has reached the quarters in Wimbledon after a 7-6(1), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Xavier Malisse today - his 33rd successive Grand Slam quarterfinal!

Roger seemed in trouble after taking a 4-3 lead in the first set as he had to leave the court for a medical time-out. After that, he went on to take the set in a tie-breaker before play had to be suspended due to rain for 40 minutes. The break seemed to suit Roger well, as he then broke Malisse three times in the second set, taking it 6-1. Set number three went to the Belgian as Roger had to drop his serve. Falling behind due to another break in the fourth set, Roger then came back to break Malisse in the fourth game to level and once more for a 4-2 lead to then wrap everything up nicely after two hours and 11 minutes.

After his 850th career triumph today, Roger will either play Mikhail Youzhny or Denis Istomin on Wednesday for a place in the semis.

cata07 I hope that your words will come true. You are a big optimist. I wish that I am like you :) Roger will need the best serve of his life, not too many errors, forehand at his best and I hope that that backhand will be solid, or else it won't be good.

Roger 2 games away to the semi finals. So proud of him. He conserved his energy in this match cos he sure will need it on Friday.

I am not even concentrating on Roger's match. The match that I really want to watch is Murray vs Ferrer. That will definitely make a competitive match. Roger's match right now is one sided, very predictable. I guess the Royal family is also interested in Murray's match. Would Murray be under pressure to impress them or would he crash out against Ferrer in front of them? We will find out in possibly half an hour from now.

Also remember that no 1 ranking is on the line. Djoko needs to get to the finals to retain his no 1 position, but if Roger beats him and goes on to win the championship, Roger becomes not only no 1, but will have the chance to equal and surpass Pete Sampras in that elusive number of weeks that he held no 1 ranking. Can't wait for all these to come true for Federer, most importamtly, GS no 18 and counting...

CATA07: Obviously, Djoko will beat Mayer, no brainer there, but facing Roger in the semis will prove to be the biggest test for both of them really. I know Roger was tested by Benneteau in the 3rd round and survived. He also pulled out a win from his ass even when he wasn't healthy enough, so my question is: What do you think Roger needs to do on Friday to beat Djokovic and go to the finals?

TUNA4444:You're right.Anyway,Fed will beat the sh*t out of him in the SF.Rog is playing amazing when he is at his very best.

Djoko is so lucky, I can't believe it. What a lucky man. And he has the easiest draw.
