Roger through in four sets

02.07.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has reached the quarters in Wimbledon after a 7-6(1), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Xavier Malisse today - his 33rd successive Grand Slam quarterfinal!

Roger seemed in trouble after taking a 4-3 lead in the first set as he had to leave the court for a medical time-out. After that, he went on to take the set in a tie-breaker before play had to be suspended due to rain for 40 minutes. The break seemed to suit Roger well, as he then broke Malisse three times in the second set, taking it 6-1. Set number three went to the Belgian as Roger had to drop his serve. Falling behind due to another break in the fourth set, Roger then came back to break Malisse in the fourth game to level and once more for a 4-2 lead to then wrap everything up nicely after two hours and 11 minutes.

After his 850th career triumph today, Roger will either play Mikhail Youzhny or Denis Istomin on Wednesday for a place in the semis.

Of course Roger can beat Djokovic, but he needs to be fit, like you wrote.
Maybe Novak will lose. Surprises are possible, it is true.
We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Why some of you write that against NDjokovic Roger has no chances! Who told you that NDJ will be in SF? He won yesterday, but the opponent....And Roger, if really fit can win that match! Roger knows the best! He is the best tennis player, though I agree that some of the other players (including Malisse) hit the ball fiercely! As if it gets the point! Sometimes yes, but sometimes noo!
Roger, dear, take a rest and decide what to do! It's nothing of our business!
Go, Roger, goooooo!
Love, Mimi

Yesterday I've seen once more time how you are GREAT. You win twice: against Malisse and against the pain to your back. I wish you to solve the health problem to be 100% for next match. But if pain should be still there it's better to stop as Olipmpic Games are at the door. ALL THE BEST CHAMP!!!
