Roger through in four sets

02.07.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has reached the quarters in Wimbledon after a 7-6(1), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Xavier Malisse today - his 33rd successive Grand Slam quarterfinal!

Roger seemed in trouble after taking a 4-3 lead in the first set as he had to leave the court for a medical time-out. After that, he went on to take the set in a tie-breaker before play had to be suspended due to rain for 40 minutes. The break seemed to suit Roger well, as he then broke Malisse three times in the second set, taking it 6-1. Set number three went to the Belgian as Roger had to drop his serve. Falling behind due to another break in the fourth set, Roger then came back to break Malisse in the fourth game to level and once more for a 4-2 lead to then wrap everything up nicely after two hours and 11 minutes.

After his 850th career triumph today, Roger will either play Mikhail Youzhny or Denis Istomin on Wednesday for a place in the semis.

continued..
When you won that 2nd set so comfortably I knew you would be allright. Your movement had improved and you were bending your back allmost like normal when waiting to receive Malisse's serve. I was glad to hear you say afterwards that it was just something that can happen and nothing really structural. I sure hope it will stay away for as long as possible and that you will be fit and strong enough to make it through the next match, and hopefully even beyond that..

Hello Roger,
Just in time to wish you all the very best for your QF today. After that difficult 3rd round you really gave me a scare with that back problem in the 4th. Having (had) back problems myself it was very clear to see that you were in real trouble and it was really worrying to see you take a medical time out off the court. I must say that it seemed like a wonderful miracle that you won that first set and got time to get help for that back during the rain delay.

Hi Rog.
Great win against Malisse, before you went out for the tritment I saw that you are playing another and wondered why? But when I saw you going out which mean it's a pain in your low back you reminded me myself last year I was in that pain but I could'nt play the way you played and won, God bless you and know no pain ever.
You can beat Youzhny easly and do it in 3 sets don't givehim a chance be agrasive.
love you forever and God bless you.
