Roger through in four sets

02.07.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has reached the quarters in Wimbledon after a 7-6(1), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Xavier Malisse today - his 33rd successive Grand Slam quarterfinal!

Roger seemed in trouble after taking a 4-3 lead in the first set as he had to leave the court for a medical time-out. After that, he went on to take the set in a tie-breaker before play had to be suspended due to rain for 40 minutes. The break seemed to suit Roger well, as he then broke Malisse three times in the second set, taking it 6-1. Set number three went to the Belgian as Roger had to drop his serve. Falling behind due to another break in the fourth set, Roger then came back to break Malisse in the fourth game to level and once more for a 4-2 lead to then wrap everything up nicely after two hours and 11 minutes.

After his 850th career triumph today, Roger will either play Mikhail Youzhny or Denis Istomin on Wednesday for a place in the semis.

What to say, Roger... It is unbelievable the way you played the match despite feeling in a lot of pain, staying focused and determined to win. That was an incredible effort. Congrats for it and for the 850th win and 33rd consecutive QF.

I feel terribly worried for you and wish you feel much better at the moment. I just want you to be physically and mentally healthy for the matches to come.

All the best for tomorrow's game against Youhny. Hope to see u in the semis again. Take care, Fed. C'm

Come on Roger. Here is hoping you only have your opponent to beat this time, not a painful back! That was awful timing. You never looked in danger against Malisse, you seemed in control, it was just whether you were going to be beaten by your back, and that would have been such awful bad luck. You did so well. Enjoy your next game Roger, you certainly have not had it easy, but that is good practice, mentally and physically. This is going to be your year Roger, come on! Allez!

Dear Roger, worried I was? yes, a lot, but so happy when you returned to the court... Congrats for that well earned victory.
Now, I MUST tell you that little story.

While sitting in my living room, impatiently waiting your return & the news, there came a white dove flying to and fro between our 2 pine trees. As I had never seen them before, I instictively knew that it was the anser to my prayer for your Guardian Angel to come to your rescue & I knew you'd be OK. Prayer answered!
God Bless
