Roger defeated by Raonic

31.10.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger had to accept his first defeat in seven matches against Milos Raonic in Paris-Bercy today. He was defeated 6-7, 5-7 by the young Canadian.

The first set went without breaks and had to be decided in a tie-breaker - which went to Raonic. Roger had a set-point in the second set at 5-4, which he unfortunately did not manage to convert as Raonic served another of his total of 22 aces. Shortly afterwards, Roger droped his own serve to admit defeat after 93 minutes of play.

Next up are the ATP World Tour Finals which start November 10th in London. In the race for number one, a maximum of 1500 points are to be earned there.

Even in court Roger seems a gentle lion to me. He is aggressive in such a quiet and elegant way. He does not overpower people with force , does not have a particularly powerful serve, yet he wins the most. He is a genuine pussycat but a lion, silent, gentle, purring, sinuous, elegant, he plays with his prey before pouncing on them!
He is quite friendly and sociable when he is well FED on wins!

This was a sad result for Roger and yet perhaps a blessing in disguise. Roger was clearly tired and perhaps didn't expect reach the final, just wanting to play what he could before having a good rest before WTF and DC. So now too we see the final 8 for WTF. Good luck dear Roger in the WTF and DC, and love as always to you and your dear family.

Roger: Last day to rest well and enjoy a good stretch and a good massage, travel through Paris and then off to London. Now that the field is set it is easy to see you might get a really difficult round robin in London. It looks like you will have to Face: Murray, Berdych and Cilic. However, each player on your round robin have a tougher opponent, a rested, confident and prepared Roger Federer. Rest Well, train hard, think each match and play without any constraints, use your magic Wizard.

"Gentle Lion" - I love that. So far, the gentle lion has won most. I love that too. The fairytale is still on!

I agree with SHEAR. Raonic had to play a more complete game yesterday because he needed to beat Roger to get to London. He played totally differently to what I saw last week, still something boring about him, that was the same, but a better player. The court probably suited him better than our Rogi, but I am sure Rogi and he has admitted it, he is tired, but healthy. This break is good. He will relax with his family, regain energy and our gentle lion will roar loudly in Djokos ears at WTF!

What I witnessed Raonic served his best ever plus some good returns he never did before (if this s the case of his returns, I would blame the court condition, but we should not. Everyone plays the same court). We ll leave it behind then go for WTF. Good luck.
