(cont'd) but I bit my lips and said nothing. Why? You were in fine form, but you hadn't played a 5 set GS match since the illness AND you were getting up in the middle of the night to enjoy your girls. Anyone who suddenly has to change the life schedule to wake up in the middle of the night, whether professionally like us doctors do, or new mothers & fathers do, naturally reach for more coffee the next morning. Your eagerness to work hard to rehabilitate after the pneumonia also had likely(contd)

(cont'd)I drink coffee also, but my work doesn't depend on a match point which makes or breaks history after strenuous exercise for 4 or 5 hours. When you first started promoting coffee, I had just predicted that your pneumonia from Africa should not affect your winning next GS, because based on what I know about your pneumonia, you and your form, it could not have stopped you from winning the next GS. However, the moment I learnt about your coffee deal, I changed my mind. (cont'd)

(cont'd)It's because it also block the recycling of this mediator. So after a while, as your body gets the adrenaline stimulus, there isn't as much mediator to be released. Perhaps equally or more importantly, habitual caffeine use desensitize the receptors that mediate the adrenaline response. That's why more and more caffeine is necessary for the same effect after habitual use. For you, what's concerning is that by the end of a long 4th & 5th set, your body's response to adrenaline is blunted.

I never stopped believing that you have 6 or 7 GSs in you after 30 years old.
I still think so.
One thing you should be aware.
The chemical methyl xanthine in caffeine, which is found in coffee,
is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor. What it does to give you the buzz in expresso, is to stop the breakdown of cyclic AMP(cAMP), which is a mediator of your adrenaline response. The problem with you using caffeine is that there is a trade off that is probably not that worth it for you.(cont'd)
