Round two in London

28.07.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger had to fight in the opening round of the Olympic tournament at the All England Club today, defeating Colombia's Alejandro Falla 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

"It's great coming back (after winning Wimbledon), but it's so much harder to do it again in the first round knowing that every match for me is like a final. I'm really relieved and hoping to keep it up," Roger said.

Our champ seemed to absolve the first round with ease, when he allowed Falla back into the match after wasting three match points in the second set. He was then pushed hard by the world number 51 in the decider before sealing a tougher than expected win on his fifth match point.

Roger will now face Julien Benneteau in the last 32. Roger had to come from two sets down to win against the Frenchman in this year's Wimbledon.

Well done champ, a win is a win in the early round's. I'm sure against Benneteau your find the next level and serve many aces. When you play your attacking brand of tennis, it's a pleasure to watch for your fan's... and a nightmare for your helpess opponent's.
Good Luck tomorrow in the doubles, you and Stan can go all the way again i'm sure.

It is not easy to come back , indeed. Bottom line, you moved on to the second round and that was crucial. Good luck next round against Benneteau. He could be a tough customer!

Dear Roger, difficult win today against a hard opponent who is always motivated while playing you, now you have someone just like him in julien bennettau, is time to be fully focused and play like the last 3 matches of wimbledon, specially quarters and semis were you played like an absolute god, keep it up, this year the gold, next year Davis Cup and then your Legend will also show a good deal of national pride. Always cheering for you.

Clearly a tough match against my countryman Falla. It seems he finds ways to make matches against Roger on grass really hard. Remember Wimbledon 2010?

Glad he was able to pull through, pheew

It´s a pity not to take advantage of so many break points. The best of 3 sets all this can become dangerous. It would be marvelous to get the olympic gold metal for your curriculum and besides the number one more time. Good luck.
