Round two in London

Roger had to fight in the opening round of the Olympic tournament at the All England Club today, defeating Colombia's Alejandro Falla 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

"It's great coming back (after winning Wimbledon), but it's so much harder to do it again in the first round knowing that every match for me is like a final. I'm really relieved and hoping to keep it up," Roger said.

Our champ seemed to absolve the first round with ease, when he allowed Falla back into the match after wasting three match points in the second set. He was then pushed hard by the world number 51 in the decider before sealing a tougher than expected win on his fifth match point.

Roger will now face Julien Benneteau in the last 32. Roger had to come from two sets down to win against the Frenchman in this year's Wimbledon.

I have to work tomorrow, so I won't be able to watch you at your job (one of my favorite things to do, by the way :). My mother (87) and I (60) are two of your greatest fans. We decided that set scores like 6-2 and 6-1 are our favorites, with you winning of course. 6-3 is OK, too. We think you just might agree!! Keep up the good work!! We hope to see more and more of those favorite scores!!!

Yeah, Roger, that was a bit tougher than expected, but indeed, Falla is a bit of a tough opponent for you (as these guys go). Congrats on keeping your cool and reaching the 2nd round! Now for Julien, who's no easy nut either (but we're sure you gonna crack it)! Good luck!

Hello Roger - it struck me the other day that, unlike most Olympians, you have more than your countrymen cheering you on - you have the whole world! It sets you apart and it also recognizes your great gift to tennis worldwide. You deserve all the cheers from round the globe. Wishing you the gold!
