Roger books spot in quarters

Roger booked a spot in the quarter-finals of the London Olympics with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin today.

Even though Roger was not at his absolute best, he secured a clear victory today in his quest for a first gold medal in the singles. Play only started after a rain delay of over an hour. Roger found an excellent start, breaking right in the second game. But his 3-0 lead then melted as Istomin broke back and Roger had to save two break points at 5-5 to then finally go all the way, securing the set with his third set point. Another early break in the second set was then enough for our champ to wrap up the encounter after 1 hour and 21 minutes. 

Roger will now play John Isner or Janko Tipsarevic in the quarter-finals.

Congrats on beating Isner.
Del Potro's height should make it difficult for him to manipulate low balls -- you know better. Even though you haven't played him on grass for a while, you'll find out soon enough.

I still think that you were the better player at that U.S. Open Final. If you had kept your nerves and cool over the line calls, you would have beaten him. You were the better player.

It makes me smile when Roger stands next to Isner. He looks so tiny in comparison and we know that he isn't . Isner makes just everyone look small. He is so tall, a giant!

So much for me being nervous for you against Isner. I am very happy for you to put me right Roger and win in two sets. Very lucky with the final shot, I know you would rather have won on a clean winning shot, but it brought us the result which we wanted and would have come anyway sooner or later. Get a good massage and well relaxed and rested ready for the match tomorrow. You are getting very close to your goal and our wish, the gold medal. Good luck and go for it, go on, Allez!

My goodness Roger, what a game. He is so tall, like a giant.
Your next opponent is lofty too but you can easily overcome the height difference.
Play your usual brilliant game and he will be no obstacle. We have the faith.
